HEIDI RUSCH
Piano
My name is Heidi Rusch. I was born and raised in Upstate New York. My mother was a piano teacher, so I started lessons at an early age. I also began violin lessons at age 8. I played in orchestras, performed in many recitals and music competitions. I knew pretty early on I wanted to be a music teacher. I attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, and graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor’s degree in Performance Pedagogy. I started teaching at The Music Studio in Albany New York the following Fall. I began attending graduate school at the College of Saint Rose in Albany New York. In addition to school and teaching, I also became the music secretary at Niskayuna High School.
During the summer of 2002, I had an opportunity to move to Illinois. I decided to go for it. I drove out with my cat, some clothes, and my Cross-Country Skis, and have been living in DuPage County ever since. I started teaching at the Bloomingdale School of Music in September 2002. I took a short leave, but now I’m back and excited to teach again!
I live in Bloomingdale with my awesome 11- year-old son, and my amazing cat Felix. When I’m not teaching piano lessons, I’m usually out running, biking, or swimming. I teach using primarily the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures method, but I am open to, and familiar with many other methods as well. My main focus for the student is to strengthen their technique, rhythm, and note reading skills, as well as developing their ear and listening abilities. I enjoy teaching all ages. The ultimate goal is to be able to use music as a tool and outlet for self-expression.
